EU consulates call for Aberdeen language courses to be saved

The joint letter was sent ahead of the expected publication of proposals this week which will outline the future of language courses at the university. The joint letter, shown to BBC Scotland News, has called for "clear signs of commitment" from the university to linguistic and cultural studies, and for a solution to any cuts to be found. It said: "We have received with concern, persistent rumours about the possibility of a closing or dramatic reduction in the academic offer of the modern lang

Clean-up resumes after Stonehaven seafront damage

A clean-up operation is continuing after large waves caused damage to the seafront in Stonehaven at the weekend. A risk to life warning was issued in the Aberdeenshire town on Saturday following high tides – with people advised to stay away. Sandbags were put in front of homes and businesses to try and prevent flooding. A large boulder was thrown into a seafront car park by the waves. Aberdeenshire Council asked members of the public to avoid impacted areas of the harbour and surrounding coas

Aberdeen bus gates 'confusing' and concerning city shop owners

The restrictions, called bus gates, were introduced to reduce the amount of general traffic on Market Street, Guild Street, Union Street and Bridge Street. The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) described the measures as a "challenge" for those wanting to come into the city centre. Follow-up tests carried out this year on human white blood cells found the same success. The university said 30 healthy volunteers and 30 with artery diseases took part - with trials in the very early stage

The first week of November 2023 saw nearly 90% more fall patients than during the same week in 2022. NHS Grampian said it would assess the situation, but that it may be a blip. The briefing note sent to staff on

The Aberdeen rap twins doing hip-hop differently

"We now try to rap about issues relevant to us and not just copy what we hear from other rappers. The vast majority of well known hip-hop is about money, violence and drugs." Darren says: "It has given us an identity, it has also challenged the perception you need to be American to be in hip-hop, it is accessible to anyone and it is about expressing yourself at the end of the day." "We decided to cover men's mental health in particular as we feel it's something that affects the vast majority o
